What made to measure tailoring is not, is bespoke tailoring. We say this because we like to be clear and transparent about the services we offer. Rather frustratingly, the term bespoke and semi bespoke are often used unprofessionally by many retailers to embellish an often unremarkable product. Made to measure tailoring involves using a workshop to create a suit made to your measurements, figuration and style details. The garment is made in a production workshop using modern techniques, including laser cutting. We at Redmayne have closely worked with our makers to personally specify our cutting and making process to reflect the house style of our bespoke. As we are tailors, not retailers, we have the technical skill and knowledge to ensure our clothing is made to our standard. What is more typical of many suits suppliers is that they simply choose a manufacturer who basically supplies a generic product which is then branded for them. So in other words, you are often getting a shared product and the success of the outcome depends on the skill of who is supplying it for you. With our experience and knowledge of Savile Row tailoring you can rest assured you're in good hands. The process for made to measure is extremely similar to bespoke as far as you, our client, is concerned. The process for ordering runs something like this -
As with our bespoke service the first thing we want to do is to get to know you, what your needs are and what you need us to do for you. It may be a suit for a special day, work or simply the perfect suit you can turn to for all occasions. You may live locally or on the other side of the world, we'd like to know all of these details so we can better guide you through the first stage of cloth and lining selection. Once the appropriate cloth is chosen and the style of cut is decided, we will take various measurements and figuration details which are required to create your own personal measure profile.
Depending on the service you choose a completed garment can be ready for you in ten to twelve weeks. Should you upgrade to our Acclaim range then you'll have to wait a little longer for extra fittings and to have all of the hand buttonholes and sewing etc completed.
Usually, only one or two fittings are required. This is where other minor adjustments can be made to ensure you're delighted and that we can amend your measurement profile for future orders. Your made to measure garment will then be complete but having you stand in front of a mirror with a big smile on your face isn't the end of the story. As they say, "the proof is in the pudding" so we always like to see you again in a few months to make sure your new suit is performing as it should and that you're completely satisfied. And yes, perhaps there's another reason for this. We always ask you to drop by again as normally the experience was so good, you'll want to repeat it.
The heritage and authority of Savile Row tailoring has been at the core of Redmayne since 1860. Our aim is to take everything we know about bespoke tailoring and implement its DNA into our made to measure service. Remember, we are not just an internet based retail business, we are tailors with over a hundred and fifty years of heritage. We know what is important in a suit and what makes it special. We're not talking about when your commission is completed but five or ten years down the line. This is when the benefits and quality of our make shine through. As the Redmayne logo and song of 1915 went "There's Something In The Make". Over a hundred years later that's still as important to us. We want you as a client, not just once but for a lifetime. A bold statement but with style, service and quality you can trust we know you won't be disappointed.
Our made to measure garments are cut in the same unmistakable style as our bespoke. A slim, flattering silhouette with a natural soft shoulder. Incredibly light and comfortable to wear thanks to our super soft canvas and construction. The term, fully canvassed tailoring, won't mean much to most of our clients. But for those in our trade, we know that a fully canvassed coat is the key to comfort, style and longevity in a garment. Many, many suit retailers sell garments that may look the part but inside they are often only half canvassed or even worse, fused together (glued together in simple terms). This inferior make lets the garments down, sometimes within only a year or so's regular wear. Our lapels are padded for a rich soft roll. The chest and shoulder construction is made of the finest components, specially chosen by us to give a soft natural look. This offers superb lightweight comfort to the client. Our patterns, designed by Head Cutter, Tom Mahon, are cut with high armholes, a slim silhouette and natural soft shoulder. Put simply, the very essence of classic English style which is synonymous with our tailoring heritage.
Whether you commission bespoke or made to measure, the level of care we give is exactly the same. This stems from our head Cutter, Tom Mahon's enthusiasm that everyone should be able to have access to quality tailoring, without compromise.
To step into the world of Savile Row tailoring, the "1860" is the perfect start. You'll be offered our signature cut in our house style, made to the highest quality from a wide selection of our in-house English woven cloths. Each commission is made using a traditional full body canvas, which defines the look and feel of these wonderful garments, incorporating key bespoke design features. We will personally discuss your needs then guide you through the details and choices available. Should you wish to choose from any of the London cloth merchants, there will be a supplement charge, depending on the cloth chosen.
The 1860 service takes around ten to twelve weeks from consultation to completion. We feel this is the very best entry into made to measure tailoring and offers excellent quality and value.
For the ultimate in our service, we suggest the "The Acclaim". All features of The 1860 are included but with added details to elevate this option as close as possible to our bespoke service. You can choose from our excellent in-house English cloths or for more exclusivity, you can select from an unlimited selection of fabrics from England's finest cloth merchants. Please note that should you choose a non-house cloth there may be a supplement charge. Upon completion of the first stage of your order, you'll be invited for a fitting before your commission is hand-finished at our bespoke workshop.
Our Acclaim service takes typically ten to fourteen weeks to completion. The extra time is needed for further fittings and specialised hand finishing. This is the ultimate made to measure suit only rivalled by our bespoke service.
